A dedicated artist traveller and preferring to paint en plein air John reflects in his work a pursuit of artistic integrity from his drawing skills, due to his early academic training in industrial design, to his meticulous compositional ability and his unique approach in capturing light, air and space.

" It is the challenge of capturing the changing moods that light creates across the day and it's subsequent effects on the surroundings such as buildings the countryside and water” John says “Painting on location ensures that the essence of the subject remains the first priority, especially the subtleties, nuances and tempo of that particular region.

John travels to Europe each year during the spring/summer to paint the historically rich landscapes that he feels so passionate about.

John has held 27 solo exhibitions, 3 in Venice Italy at a prestigious Gallery in San Marco, and when in Venice he has been invited to lecture at the University of Architecture on drawing and perspective.

John's paintings are featured in many collections in Europe, the USA and Japan.

Please join me for 10 weeks of either MONDAY EVENING or TUESDAY MORNING Watercolour Classes at The HUB. Classes are suitable for beginners (with some prior experience) and intermediate artists.
My classes are about taking you out of your comfort zone. About having fun with big brushes and big washes. We will follow a "holistic" "total picture" approach to our painting and develop techniques to simplify our subject matter. We will also explore ideas around colour, value and transparency. We'll learn about "leaving the white", about the importance of focal points for composition and the importance of colour contrasts. We'll cover a range of subject matter from landscapes, thought to seascapes and nautical themes and urban scenes.

We paint at
The Hub,140 Weller Road,
Tarragindi QLD 4121
