Many Watercolour members did not miss the exciting opportunity to share the magic of watercolour with one of Australia’s finest internationally recognized Artists and Tutors. The course covered composition, balance and tone, and taught students how to use light to create a painting with visual impact. What an impressive finish to the workshops. Two locations Lavalla Centre, Paddington and The Hub, 140 Wellers Road, Tarragindi. ![]() ![]() A dedicated artist traveller and preferring to paint en plein air John reflects in his work a pursuit of artistic integrity from his drawing skills, due to his early academic training in industrial design, to his meticulous compositional ability and his unique approach in capturing light, air and space. " It is the challenge of capturing the changing moods that light creates across the day and it's subsequent effects on the surroundings such as buildings the countryside and water” John says “Painting on location ensures that the essence of the subject remains the first priority, especially the subtleties, nuances and tempo of that particular region. John travels to Europe each year during the spring/summer to paint the historically rich landscapes that he feels so passionate about. John has held 27 solo exhibitions, 3 in Venice Italy at a prestigious Gallery in San Marco, and when in Venice he has been invited to lecture at the University of Architecture on drawing and perspective. John's paintings are featured in many collections in Europe, the USA and Japan. There are so many things to think about and you want to make sure your work is ready to be taken home by their buyer. Here are a couple of simple tips. Once you have finished your work, take a good look at it. Select you most impressive work. Does it need to be framed? If so, what type of frame should you use? Are your paintings signed? Are they ready for hanging? Wrap your work ready for transportation so it doesn't get damaged, create labels for your artwork, conform to the Conditions of Entry. Conditions of Entry will be available shortly and will be sent to all members and will soon also be accessible on the WSQ website. ![]() History of the Watercolour Society of Queensland The Watercolour Society of Queensland is 32 years old this year and in celebration of our History, the Society had a special treat for all of our Visitors at The Auditorium, Mt Coot-tha Brisbane Botanical Gardens on the 7th and 8th April 2018 at the Autumn Watercolour Exhibition. The static display of Watercolour Paintings covered the first 20 years of our inauguration. The paintings have been kindly donated by previous Tutors. We think they are fabulous and we're very proud to show them. Our exhibition patrons who looked at the display enjoyed and appreciated the art and in some cases a few of our members could remember going to the particular demonstration of the art on display. Chris Osborn who is cataloguing and collecting our history put this display together. Great work Chris! Keep an eye out for future instalments from Chris of the Society's history as additional pieces are collected, collated and brought to life once again for all to enjoy!
