Maria Field, self-taught Brisbane artist and chocoholic began her love affair with art at the age of 5 when she received a 36 colour paint box which became her most treasured possession.

Maria delights in creating colourful, clean, transparent watercolours, loving the challenge of the exhilarating medium with her work encompassing many subjects. “Watercolour is so alluring, fresh, luminous and exciting and I never tire of its fluid seduction and spontaneity. I just have to paint, if I don’t, I don’t feel complete. It’s as if these paintings are inside me and if I don’t get them out I will simply explode! God has created a beautiful world and I would just like to portray some of that wonder. Subjects that inspire me usually have elements of light/shade, colour or shape.”
She also loves to create vibrant floral oils and acrylics, impressionistic pastels and detailed pastel Pet Portraits.

Maria enjoys sharing her love of art by teaching several weekly art classes throughout Brisbane, giving workshops, demonstrations and tutoring at the USQ McGregor School. “I want to be able to pass on the knowledge I have gathered and more importantly to share the sheer joy that art can give.”

Maria was featured in the May 2010, February 2011 and November 2011 editions of Australian Artist magazine.

Since commencing competing in shows in 2003, Maria has won over 57 awards, including 17 Firsts, “Champion of Show” Samford Show 2007 and “Reserve Champion” Samford 2009. She was commissioned by the Lord Mayor's Office to do a watercolour painting of Brisbane as an international gift and four of her paintings have been bought by the Ipswich Art Gallery for their permanent collection.

Her works are held in private and corporate collections throughout Australia and in England, Canada, South Africa, Italy, Poland, United Arab Emirates, Germany and Japan. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Maria Field at P.O. Box 2043, Toowong 4066 or email
